Officer Ryan E. Stringer

Officer Ryan E. Stringer

Officer Ryan E. Stringer was born in the City of Los Angeles and grew up in the City of Whittier, graduating from Whittier Christian High School. After working for his father’s construction business for several years; Ryan attended Fullerton College and Rio Hondo Community College. Ryan entered the Police Academy at Rio Hondo, where he excelled in both academics and physical fitness. He graduated in February of 2009.

Upon graduation from the academy, Officer Ryan E. Stringer was sworn in as an Alhambra Police Officer on February 26, 2009. During his two-year tenure with the Alhambra Police Department, he worked the Field Services Division, Patrol Section.

He was also a member of the Alhambra Police Department’s Baker-to-Vegas Challenge Cup Relay Team, the largest law enforcement event of its kind in the world, which not only tests one’s physical endurance but also requires teamwork, camaraderie and a strong competitive drive.

During his off-time, Ryan enjoyed working out and all outdoor activities including motorcycle riding, hunting and sky-diving.

Officer Ryan E. Stringer, a Whittier resident, was 26 years-old and is survived by his parents, Sonny and Debbie Stringer and four sisters: Kristen Stringer-Bartel, Kym Genes, Dana Stringer and Donna McCulloch.

Officer Ryan E. Stringer is the fourth Alhambra officer to die in the line of duty. Officer Stringer was killed in a tragic automobile accident on July 10, 2011 when his patrol car collided with another patrol vehicle while responding to a possible robbery. The other officer involved in the accident is Alhambra Officer Juan Carlos Mejia. He was admitted in serious condition following the accident, but is recovering from his injuries.

Following the tragic news, flags in both Alhambra and Sacramento were flown at half-staff. Officer Ryan E. Stringer is being remembered as just the type of police officer any city would like to have on its force – bright, friendly, pro-active and energetic.

The Alhambra Police Department has established the Ryan Stringer Memorial Fund in memory of Ryan Stringer. If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to the Ryan Stringer Memorial Fund and mail to: Ryan Stringer Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 7339, Alhambra, CA 91801.
